Those boxes and the text in them can look pretty small when looking on an iPhone screen. Anyone not paying super close attention could have mistaken those messages as routine confirmation messages for the initial donation to go through. Unclicking them could have been a challenge for some.
And let's not forget, Trump went on to hoodwink people out of more money after the election, asking them to fund his court battles but not telling them that he was pocketing the bulk of the money, while only a fraction of the donations actually went to the court challenges.
