Yeah, even in hindsight knowing he wouldn't sign, he was still the best player the Flames could have taken at the time.
The Erixon and Hickey picks look worse in hindsight because there were still some decent players left on the board when they were taken. If there was any hint that either of them might be a danger not to sign, they shouldn't have been taken.
