Seems like an excuse. maybe he's now just old and overrated.

I don't think a team is going to give up a significant asset for an old player with another year on his contract who needs to be sheltered by another good defenseman. not unless you retain a fair amount of his contract.
Why do you keep saying he is a poor player? You are trying to paint him as a bottom pair D when he is still pacing for 36pts and playing in all situations. The guy is 37 so he is obviously slowing down.

Gio played with top pairing guys and they were often called the best pair in the league. It has been a couple years since that was the case but from 13-19 Gio with either Brodie or Hamilton was considered a top 1-3 pair in the league.

Andersson has never been a top pairing guy and he is having a rough season in year 1 of a new contract.

Retaining on the contract makes sense. Makes a lot more sense than taking a bad contract that runs a year longer just to get a pick that is in the late 20’s in a draft where the pandemic has made it incredibly challenging to scout talent.
