But the USA, warts and all, is nowhere near the level of the Government of China (again I am not throwing dispersions at the Chinese people or those of Chinese heritage).

Personally, I'd be happy to spend more on an item knowing it didn't go to support the Chinese Government.

I have tried to buy less and less Made in China, but I will be honest it is hard and requires some research.

I guess we have to decide is we are a Democracy that espouses Human Rights or not.

Hey BTW I am waiting for this list:
Sanctions robust enough to genuinely hurt the Chinese regime would require government intervention in our market economy on a scale that no Western government is willing to undertake. Think of the uproar if a government imposed high tariffs on phones with parts made in China. And China responded by imposing tariffs on wheat, canola, and beef from North America. Our business and financial leaders would go ape####.

We don’t have the stomach to confront authoritarian states if it means any kind of economic or political sacrifice. Hungary and Poland are run by quasi-fascist governments where independent media, the judiciary, and political opposition have all been suppressed. And yet the EU has stood by and done nothing. Proposals for even mild rebukes of the authoritarian regimes were abandoned.
