As I have already mentioned, so you trade Tkachuk, Monahan, Zary/Pelletier, and our first for him. You're trading away 120-140 NHL points just in the two roster players. You're getting back 80-90. How do you make up the 30-50 point gap? You have just taken out two of the best pieces that could address that gap. So where does the improvement come from? You turn the team into a one line team, just like the Buffalo Sabres, and you put the Flames on the exact same path of being bottom feeder. By time you draft and develop the players needed to support Eichel, his contract is up and he's headed off to greener fields. The Flames do not have the assets to make the deal and be any better than the Sabres currently are.
The asking price is too high and I wouldn't make that trade BUT...

Tkachuk's cap hit after next year will be $9m/year. You're looking at more than $15m/year between he and Monahan. Eichel is $10m/year, so you have $5m & change /year of cap space available to sign someone who could potentially provide those 30-50 points. Maybe you could get that player through free agency. That and you count on improved production from the rest of your top 6 to close that gap. With Eichel stabilizing the top line, you hope that he & Johnny gel nicely and it causes Johnny's numbers to rise, and also takes some pressure off Lindy's shoulders and lets him settle in at the #2 center position and really thrive in that role.

But again, no way I give up a first AND one of our top prospects to get Eichel.
