The problem with all this is that Treliving chose to move forward with a weak core in comparison to others. So if you’re going in with a weaker core group, then your margin for error is low. Treliving made one too many mistakes whether by trade or UFAs.
Just looking at this season as an example; the forward depth on this team wasn’t good, so they try to balance things out by moving pieces around. Then, they surround those core pieces with bargain bin wingers because that’s all that management could afford. That decision was unequivocally, a disaster. This team can’t score, they can’t beat a rebuilding Ottawa Senators, they keep embarrassing themselves on national TV and every core player except one or two are sitting at their lowest possible trade value ever.
I hate this season and I can’t wait for it to end. I thought the first half of last season was bad, but wow this version of the Flames blows that one out of the water. I don’t even want to see what this core follows up for an encore next season. This core should be completely dismantled. They had more than enough time together.
