To be honest, I didn’t think Monahan was anything special even before his surgeries. I see exactly what the Toronto scout sees. A player that kind of struggles to be a difference maker on both ends of the ice.

The Flames needed either Bennett or Monahan to become a Mark Scheifele and neither of them (especially the former) became that play driving center that can lead his team in points/scoring every year. That’s a big reason we’ve been stuck in the middle of the west over the past decade which was dominated by the likes of Kopitar, Toews, Getzlaf, Thornton and etc. Now this next decade is shaping up to be Mackinnon vs McDavid vs Scheifele.
