Seeing a lot of Sean Monahan’s wrists in here. I don’t think his wrists are even his biggest problems. He scores most of his goals within 10 feet of the net.

It’s his legs that hold him back mostly. His mobility and pace of play keep him from being effective in a lot of areas. Leon Draisaitl went through a lot of early struggles in his career because his skating was so poor. But he’s fixed that and then some. Now he has the separation speed plus the big frame to hold onto pucks and make plays whereas Monahan’s speed topped out early with very limited improvement over his career.

That’s why there hasn’t been the same exponential growth to his game like Draisaitl. It seems like the Monahan that scores 31 goals in year 2 is pretty similar to the Monahan we see today. He’s probably more assertive defensively, but even then, still not exactly a 2 way force.
