Not if it cripples the franchise going forward. You don't set the franchise back a decade for five years of any player, because that is all you're getting out of this kid is five years of play.

As I have already mentioned, so you trade Tkachuk, Monahan, Zary/Pelletier, and our first for him. You're trading away 120-140 NHL points just in the two roster players. You're getting back 80-90. How do you make up the 30-50 point gap? You have just taken out two of the best pieces that could address that gap. So where does the improvement come from? You turn the team into a one line team, just like the Buffalo Sabres, and you put the Flames on the exact same path of being bottom feeder. By time you draft and develop the players needed to support Eichel, his contract is up and he's headed off to greener fields. The Flames do not have the assets to make the deal and be any better than the Sabres currently are.
