The Flames worked hard on Monday night. They carried the play for the most part but they were let down by two reoccurring themes.

1. Don't create enough dangerous chances so they make goalies look good
2. Forcing the play and making bad decisions resulting in odd man rushes or players out of position.

This isn't a team that doesn't care in my mind. They just don't have the horses. A Calgary Flames team with a Monahan/Gaudreau line that doesn't create any five on five offence is pretty much dead in the water.
I am about ready to concede the ship has sailed on those two being dangerous 5 on 5. This team can still compete by having a lethal PP and some sound structure that limits 5 on 5 chances.

When I say compete, I'm not talking about a Stanley Cup. But maybe win a round. Because unlike 2004, the role players aren't as good and there's no monster like Iginla who can be counted on to score.
