Don’t settle for someone you ‘think’ ‘could be’ ‘has potential’.
No. I’m over it. If you think Barkov or MacKinnon or Eichel are #1Cs, and are possibly available, and you have the assets to get a deal done, you get it done.
We can find another Valimaki. We can find another Lindholm. We can find another Tkachuk, Zary, Pelletier.
We cannot for the life of us find a #1C, going on nearly 30 years now.

Lot of truth here.
It’s like trying to grill up the perfect steak with the wrong cut of meat. You can dress it up as much as you’d like, season it perfectl, and add the right sides to it, but ultimately, it still ends disappointing you any way you slice it.
Just get the right cut of meat, even if it costs a little more because if the foundation is right, eventually it’ll all work out in the end. Just look at the Oilers as an example, screwed up for years, could’ve had a Michelin star winning meal years ago, but they frittered away all their tasty sides. But as long as the foundation is right, eventually the sides can just be mediocre and you’ll still end up with a great meal.
