I've seen it brought up a few times that we need to trade Gaudreau before his NTC kicks in with the idea we'll see a better return. That idea feels overblown to me.

"Player rental" returns are less than "Player under long term contract" returns and no GM in his right mind is paying a "Player under long term contract" price for Gaudreau without knowing first if they can re-sign him.

Now if it's Dim Jim or Cirelli I get where this is coming from but I think the NTC has essentially already kicked in whether official or not.
