Too many picks and assets traded off and now this team has too many holes to fill with no time or cap space to fill it. Sam Bennett didn’t turn out well and the Oilers end up with a future Hart Trophy winner with the one draft pick prior. That’s a double whammy because now they’re off to the races with maybe the greatest 1-2 punch up the middle in the NHL while the Flames are wherever the hell they are, somewhere in the middle like they always are.
Yup.

We were supposed to suck that year and be the team that was in the lottery. Instead we had a good season that really muddied the eyes of the GM and ownership and what should have been a long rebuild was over within 2-3 seasons.

Oilers suck when they should have been better, get McDavid.

Flames move the picks for Hamilton and make other win now moves in the next two off seasons because they think they are further ahead in the rebuild than they were.

Fooled by early success.
