Great Break down Harry Lime I think you pretty much nailed every chapter.
I had nothing to do today so I just finished watching Joss's Justice League followed by the 4-hour marathon that is ZS Justice League.
Spoiler!
So right off I can say the new version is better than the old version (I know, I know, a very low bar). I wouldn't say it's a completely different movie, but it is a little better if you don't mind the 4 hours.
The first 3 hours of the ZS version are pretty much identical to the first 3/4 of the old movie. Just with extra backstories, pointless side-stories, and unnecessary slo-mo as has been pointed out. Character development was better, but of course, you're going to get more character development and a few extra pieces that add to the story when you stretch it out into a 4-hour movie. This was always an issue with the first movie, trying to cram all these new characters together without having their own movies first. A few scenes have their order changed but nothing that really separated it from the story of the original.
They removed a couple of Joss's goofy scenes. The Flash awkwardly falling onto WW's chest (which for some reason Joss thinks is hilarious as he did the exact same thing in Avengers Age of Ultron with Bruce and Black Widow). And took out all the stuff with the random family living beside Chernobyl.
The whole movie has a darker tone, which I liked better.
The big differences to me between the 2 movies besides length were;
1) the inclusion of Darkseid. I have no idea why it wasn't this way in the original, anybody who knows the story knows he's the real big bad, not to mention the fact that Lex Luthur mentions Darkseid in the BvS movie, and it wouldn't have added much run time or confused average moviegoers to include him.
2)better CGI. Steppenwolf and the parademons looked much better, less cartoony. Bad guys bleed and it looks better when they are taking a trident to the chest, not just some green ooze when it was convenient for the story like the first movie. The final fight scene looked much, much better than the original.
3)the final fight was changed for the better. In the original, it always felt too easy. Superman comes in and saves the day in the original. This was more of a team finally working together, sure Superman is a big part of it but everyone had a part to play. Barry isn't just sidelined the whole time saving 'Random Russian Family number 3'.
But all that doesn't fix what I find to be the biggest problem with JL. The team never has an internal conflict to overcome.
Here is a fantastic breakdown of why Avengers works and JL doesn't.
Avengers has a great internal conflict and even has them battle each other before they can come together as a team. JL equivalent of that is Bruce saying they should resurrect Superman, WW saying I don't think that's a good idea, then they go ahead and resurrect Superman.

this bothered me too. Does Aquaman have the power to make boots, cable-knit sweaters, and fur-lined jackets just appear every time he shows up on land? There must be a lot of stylishly dressed villagers in that town wearing his cast offs.
