The Leafs feed showed how far away from the boards Gaudreau was when Holl came flying in to hit him:
At that distance, Gaudreau could have gone head first into the boards.

Looks like a good hit to me, good on Holl to avoid the head, especially against a smaller player.
Just because Johnny had his head down and didn't notice Holl doesn't make it a blind side hit. It wasn't from behind, Gaudreau left himself open for a solid open ice hit and Holl took the opportunity. No more of a blindside hit than the one Tkachuk had on Tavares imo.
