I think sports as a whole is much less tribalistic than it was 25-years ago. The internet and sports broadcasting have both contributed massively to the de-regionalisation of fandom. I know that for the entire time my kids have been in school, they and most of their peers do not care a lot about sports, and especially not local teams. I think in the end it is probably a good thing that none of them take it nearly as seriously as I do.
