Why has history repeated itself and organizations like Edmonton and Pittsburgh get generational talents twice in a 20-30 year span?
They each got to enjoy watching and winning multiple times with Gretzky and Lemieux as the dominate forces in the league only for the broken system to allow the same organizations to get another round of generational talents in McDavid and Crosby.
Lemieux and Crosby’s tenures overlapped for frigg sake.

The Crosby lottery still feels like it was fixed so there is that. But at least there they did suck for a while, and I feel bad that they lost a good 8-10 years of prime Lemieux due to injuries.
The Oilers getting McDavid is the still one of the most ridiculous things that's ever happened in NHL history.
They shouldn't even have been eligible to win the lottery after having 3 1st overall picks in the 5 years prior.
Fact that NHL didn't have a rule about that when they changed the lottery odds was so stupid.
