From a innovation standpoint, I am willing to bet this is good news. Rogers tends to be quite a bit ahead of Shaw on hardware and network. Shaw always struggled to roll out cable boxes with similar features to the Rogers or Comcast versions. 4K feeds may also finally start showing up at Shaw, and maybe even Flames broadcasts since Rogers and Telus both can actually handle that?
but outside that, less competition overall. Higher prices. Less jobs in Calgary potentially/realistically.
Way of the world these days, size matters, and Shaw was far too small a fish in a lot of ways.
