Why are kicked in goals not allowed in the first place? I get its originally most likely for safety reasons; you don't want skate blades flailing all over the place. But if they blade stays on the ice, and it's a sideways motion, I think they should count those goals.

It's a great play anywhere else on the ice when the players are athletic enough to control the puck with skates, so why not allow it when it results in a goal?
It’s dangerous for a bunch of players to be kicking with knives on their feet. The rule is fine the way it is, though I think Gaudreau was turning his skate to get the angle to deflect it more than actually kicking it .
