I'm going to go ahead and not put this in NSFW tags, but if you watch the Criterion version of Robocop, and go frame by frame during the death of Murphy scene, you can see each individual finger blown off of his hand. And these were practical effects. There were a number of small 1 to 5 second bursts of film in that movie that caused it to have an X rating before it was pared down. I'm very grateful that the original is available, it makes the pacing even better.
