I won't get into which player should or shouldn't get exposed - that's an argument for another day as we see what the team looks like under Darryl, and how each defencemen looks like by then, and what (if any moves) Treliving makes between now and trade deadline day.
I just don't think Bennett has the value that any of the top 4 defencemen have. You can only protect 3 (well, you can also run 4-4, but I would say that's worse).
At this point in time, it would be a safe bet that the Flames are going to lose a defencemen, unless the roster changes.

I think Gio and Kylington are exposed and, depending on which way Seattle wants to go, both have more value in their own way than Bennett. Gio is a guy on an expensive but short contract who can provide the veteran gravitas and experience. Kylington is all untapped potential on a very cheap deal. Bennett is a guy who is not ELC, has a history of underperforming and who you can replace much cheaper.
