The Flames firing Ward is the most depressing thing that's occurred in the last week, and that include the 3 Oilers losses.

We really have to take care of business Saturday and next week. Any long losing streak will put our playoff position in jeopardy.

Sutter will be a great hire. The battle of Alberta is going to get even harder.

Ward should have been fired when the sens won those two games against the flames

Mangiapane, Backlund, Anderson, Tkachuk, etc basically everyone will get better imo and have the ability to play Sutter hockey, they don't have to be big hitters to be tight checkers. I do wonder how Gaudreau will respond to a new system and culture.

he's gonna try and turn the Flames into a grinding team like the Kings of 2014 and the Flames of 2004
problem is, the Flames aren't built that way outside of Tkachuk and maybe Bennett

plus, the league has moved away from the size and heaviness of those old Kings teams and way more emphasis on skill and speed

I'm not sure he will tbh. I think you'll see a style similar to Tipp or Trotz. Not necessarily grinding hockey but tight checking defensively responsible.

And if he does push towards a grinding type of play I think that benefits Tkachuk, mangiapane, Backlund, Gio, Lucic, etc, etc they have a fair amount of players who can play that style. This is also the guy who made Gaborik work.

I think it will get more boring. Tippett and Sutter will try to "out defense" each other. Going to have 2-1 games because nobody will take any offensive chances.

This is a crazy season. We've seen most Canadian teams go through tire fires and yet with the volume head-to-head format I'm not sure anyone other than Ottawa is out of it. I will say for as embarrassing as the Flamers have been Sutter will get them turned around and quickly. No more shortcuts for players. And a lineup can can be abrasive and greasy with his steel toe boot to their asses. Oh ... and a reset Markstrom...

Sutter hire is really bad news for the Oilers. We were all hoping Ward would remain as long as possible.

Sutter will snuff out any locker room conflict and calm things down for the Flames. The Flames were a worse lineup partly due to the dysfunction and infighting. If I know Daryll he will be able to sew those things together and get the Flames playing more responsible and consistent hockey.

Looking at the standings the Oilers are in some trouble currently. Habs have a bead on us despite being lousy, and Flames could get in range with a win on Saturday. Buckle up, gonna be a ride.

Sadly, that's a really good move by Calgary. He's exactly the type of coach they need to get those floaters to buy into a hard working culture. I doubt he's any kind of long term fix but in the short term it could give them a boon.

Sutter is referencing the 2004 cup run as 'unfinished business.' Not sure why anyone other than him would care about that. That'd be like us trying to avenge 2006. What's the point when there's no one on the team from then to rally around?

Yup. Coaches are getting fired for only beating us by 4 goals.

Well, it's getting harder and harder to fire our own. Very few coaches left our there that are willing to work for minimum wage or on commission.

I want to think this is more a product of the fact that we beat the Flames 6-1 and 5-1 in the past week, but it’s really funny having the opposing coach get fired after losing to their team by 4 goals.

The Sens are so good at getting opposing coaches fired that they don't even need to beat them now lol.

As a division rival, was kinda hoping Ward saw out the rest of the year.

I was just thinking the other day, "When he left LA, what happened?" the answer is Calgary knows how to do Retro properly.

Idk how good of a coach Sutter is anymore. He seemed to refuse to adapt his coaching style to the faster game that is currently played in the nhl. Let’s see if he learned from his mistakes.

I still feel the dude is a good coach, just might have a short shelf life with teams because he's a bit of a hardass and some players may grow tired of that after a while

Can’t wait for the Darryl Sutter press conferences.

To be fair, the last time Sutter was fired the Kings were under the impression they were still contenders and were underperforming. The next seasons showed that was not the case and the problems were much deeper than Sutter.
