Counter-MacTavish: No-Good Offensive
Quote:
I feel like we have to somehow counter the Sutter move. But how?
....Return of MacT?
|
Quote:
NHL teams are so f***in' weird. Darryl Sutter in 2021...
If Tippett gets canned are they gonna bring back MacTavish?
|
Quote:
Lots of dinosaurs in Alberta.
|
Quote:
Flames decided to visit the Tyrell because they saw the Oilers do it and thought, why not?
|
Quote:
Well, at least the morning show on 1260 can bring back "Sad Sutter".
What a piss-poor week of hockey for Oilers fans.
|
Quote:
It's actually impressive how much of an old boy's club the NHL is. Nepotism is the name of the game.
|
Quote:
Canucks six points back, but we have two games in hand
Flames four points back, with them having a game in hand.
We really have to take care of business Saturday and next week. Any long losing streak will put our playoff position in jeopardy.
|
Quote:
Sutter will be a great hire. The battle of Alberta is going to get even harder.
|
Quote:
Ward should have been fired when the sens won those two games against the flames
|
Quote:
Mangiapane, Backlund, Anderson, Tkachuk, etc basically everyone will get better imo and have the ability to play Sutter hockey, they don't have to be big hitters to be tight checkers. I do wonder how Gaudreau will respond to a new system and culture.
|
Quote:
he's gonna try and turn the Flames into a grinding team like the Kings of 2014 and the Flames of 2004
problem is, the Flames aren't built that way outside of Tkachuk and maybe Bennett
plus, the league has moved away from the size and heaviness of those old Kings teams and way more emphasis on skill and speed
|
Quote:
I'm not sure he will tbh. I think you'll see a style similar to Tipp or Trotz. Not necessarily grinding hockey but tight checking defensively responsible.
And if he does push towards a grinding type of play I think that benefits Tkachuk, mangiapane, Backlund, Gio, Lucic, etc, etc they have a fair amount of players who can play that style. This is also the guy who made Gaborik work.
|
Quote:
Haha, Sutter. A fossil of a coach and a ####ty team, Flames suck so bad.
|
Quote:
I think it will get more boring. Tippett and Sutter will try to "out defense" each other. Going to have 2-1 games because nobody will take any offensive chances.
|
Quote:
This is a crazy season. We've seen most Canadian teams go through tire fires and yet with the volume head-to-head format I'm not sure anyone other than Ottawa is out of it. I will say for as embarrassing as the Flamers have been Sutter will get them turned around and quickly. No more shortcuts for players. And a lineup can can be abrasive and greasy with his steel toe boot to their asses. Oh ... and a reset Markstrom...
|
Quote:
Sutter hire is really bad news for the Oilers. We were all hoping Ward would remain as long as possible.
Sutter will snuff out any locker room conflict and calm things down for the Flames. The Flames were a worse lineup partly due to the dysfunction and infighting. If I know Daryll he will be able to sew those things together and get the Flames playing more responsible and consistent hockey.
Looking at the standings the Oilers are in some trouble currently. Habs have a bead on us despite being lousy, and Flames could get in range with a win on Saturday. Buckle up, gonna be a ride.
|
Quote:
Sadly, that's a really good move by Calgary. He's exactly the type of coach they need to get those floaters to buy into a hard working culture. I doubt he's any kind of long term fix but in the short term it could give them a boon.
|
Quote:
Sutter is referencing the 2004 cup run as 'unfinished business.' Not sure why anyone other than him would care about that. That'd be like us trying to avenge 2006. What's the point when there's no one on the team from then to rally around?
|
Quote:
Sutter about to have lucic on line 1 lmao
All jokes aside I know flames fans have wanted Ward gone for awhile. Good on em
|
Quote:
uh oh, flames gonna come out and play hard for the new coach come saturday
|

The True Coach Killer Team
Quote:
Yup. Coaches are getting fired for only beating us by 4 goals.
|
Quote:
Well, it's getting harder and harder to fire our own. Very few coaches left our there that are willing to work for minimum wage or on commission.
|
Quote:
Ya, I'm wondering if the decision was actually made after the first 6-1 game but Sutter had to wait a week for COVID reasons.
|
Quote:
Another coach fired? Even though we sucked ass? We have a knack for it I guess.
|
Quote:
I want to think this is more a product of the fact that we beat the Flames 6-1 and 5-1 in the past week, but it’s really funny having the opposing coach get fired after losing to their team by 4 goals.
|

Family Affairs
Quote:
Nows the time to bring in a meat and potatoes good ole Alberta farm boy and reunite the family by trading for Brandon Sutter. All we ask for is 2 first round picks.
|
Quote:
"Good job winning the game Geoff, but beating the Sens hardly counts. You're fired"
How I imagine that convo going after the game.
Sens we needed you to win to build on the coach killing meme!
|
Quote:
Between Blasty & sutter can someone please confirm what year I’m in?
|
Quote:
Nobody tell him Iginla and Kiprusoff aren't there
|

The Unexpected
Quote:
Ward getting canned was getting apparent. Not many expected this replacement though...
|
Quote:
I thought it was a ####post at first.
|
Quote:
The Sens didn't even win the game and still sniped the coach. It appears I severely underestimated them.
|
Quote:
The Sens are so good at getting opposing coaches fired that they don't even need to beat them now lol.
|
Quote:
As a division rival, was kinda hoping Ward saw out the rest of the year.
Super interested to see how Sutter does
|
Quote:
I was just thinking the other day, "When he left LA, what happened?" the answer is Calgary knows how to do Retro properly.
|
Quote:
Idk how good of a coach Sutter is anymore. He seemed to refuse to adapt his coaching style to the faster game that is currently played in the nhl. Let’s see if he learned from his mistakes.

G.O.A.T. Sound Bites

The long-awaited return of the Sutter interview
|
Quote:
I miss Sutter BADLY. I am going to subscribe to the flames YouTube just to hear post-game Sutterisms.
|
Quote:
so happy for darryl. my god this man brought the best years to the kings. he got the players to buy in and give everything they have to win. 8th seed baby!!! even though after covid he will be a rival - i cannot root agaisnt this beautiful man. Also his post game interviews are gold. 1 word answers to all the dumbass canadian media incoming
|
Quote:
hahaha holy ####. Very interested in seeing if Sutter's style holds in a much faster paced NHL
|
Quote:
I still feel the dude is a good coach, just might have a short shelf life with teams because he's a bit of a hardass and some players may grow tired of that after a while
|
Quote:
Can’t wait for the Darryl Sutter press conferences.
|
Quote:
To be fair, the last time Sutter was fired the Kings were under the impression they were still contenders and were underperforming. The next seasons showed that was not the case and the problems were much deeper than Sutter.
|
Quote:
Ready for those 5 word sentence interviews again!
