The issue was out there (esp given previous coaches) and rumours were already circling. He could have asked it more tactfully to be sure, but in some ways it's good that he asked because Darryl was able to address it head on and put it to bed.
Plus I don't think anyone is going to lose points with Darryl for asking a hard question directly, he's not really one to beat around the bush.

"Did you do it?" was a good question? There's a dozen ways to address that without sounding like an idiot. You can layout the way the league and coaching in general have changed and how do you handle certain scenarios that may have happened in the past with players like Carcillo now? Tough, in your face coaching has kind of been left to the wayside, you being known as that style of coach how do you adjust blah blah blah. Dozens of ways to phrase it and maybe even get a better answer.
No coach is answering and no respectable reporter is saying, you've been accused of kicking a player. Did you do it? It was summarily dismissed as it should have been. Are there lawsuits? Any potential for legal action around this?
All BS aside I am happy that Sutter is back. I wanted him when they hired Peters so better late then never I guess. I liked everything he had to say about how to play, making connections with players and getting them into the right mindset. This team doesn't understand what it takes to win, the commitment, the price, the buy in. I think they are about to find out.
