Generally it was clothing.

I mean I was jealous that they didn't have to wear their sister's hand me down female jeans.......yeah #### that helped me learn to punch first.

Also, snack.

In Moncton they used to have elementary school snack, free snack was a milk and crackers. If you paid you could get Apple or Orange Juice and cheese or peanut butter (this was late 70's). Everyone in my class except me and a girl that smelled got something other than milk and crackers. Worst part was all winter the milk was always frozen solid.
