Even though you cannot make excuses for this team's play at this point, if last night was a one-off you wouldn't think that much of it. Any team can win on any night in the NHL, and playing their 5th in 7 nights with backup goalie playing his 3rd in 4 (awful personnel decision BTW) you could forgive them the loss if they were 12-4 and had a history of playing a consistent competitive game.
As it stands it is just more of the same and clearly not good enough.

I don’t think starting Zag was much of an option and it would have been just cruel.
One could complain about overusing Markstrom, though I’ve argued he had a lengthy break and Rittich’s first two starts which were on schedule were not confidence inducing. And Markstrom’s injury likely wasn’t from overplaying - I think it was his two collisions or maybe the scrum in his last game.
