His biggest mistake was Neal. His off ice issues were knowable and Treliving didn’t find out about them.

Hamonic made everyone he played with worse. Both Brodie and Hanifin became trade bait because they looked awful next to Hamonic. He cost a massive price for not even being a top 4 D. He was also coming off a pretty terrible year the season before the Flames picked him up.
Neal was a terrible move no doubt but he cost cap space. The loss of those picks for Hamonic took away some key assets that thinned out the prospect pool and limited the ability to be in on other trades
