This season was always a last one with the core that I don't particularly love season ... and we're seeing that. They're not as bad as things are going now, but probably not good enough to go all that far this season anyway.
Hope they squeak in and do some damage.

I agree with your perspective of the team and how to view as a fan.
The bolded really struck me and I wonder if Treliving feels the same way. Like everyone, I wonder if he has the staying power to last beyond the season and I wonder what he was waiting to see before beginning with some foundational changes. Yes maybe the right deals weren't there this last off season but he has had this team a long time. And as Scorp pointed out in another thread, his in season moves wouldn't have helped an AHL team win a championship, much less this squad.
IMO it's scary imagining any GM going into an off season thinking it's his only timeframe in which to remake the team. This team would have benefited greatly with more change along the way. And yeah it's frustrating that we are on coach 4 with this core and still left wondering what they could do under a quality coach.
I have no illusions about this team being close to a SC contender but winning the Canadian division would be glorious and would create one of the most memorable seasons in Flames history. I hate the idea that the organization isn't putting out the best team possible.
