Ryan was coach Bill Peters jackknife (and 3rd line Centre) but Ward immediately reduced Ryan's minutes and demoted him to the 4th line.

Come on man, if you’re gonna grill the Ward like this, at least be honest or not have your story fall apart so easily.
Derek Ryan after Ward took over for Peters:
41GP - 6 goals - 12 assists - 18 points - +5 - 14:45 ATOI
Or in other words, Derek Ryan was Geoff Ward’s 3rd line center and he put up virtually identical stats (pace) that he did in his previous years with Peters. It’s only this season where Backlund was dropped to the 3rd line that Derek Ryan’s role changed. If this team actually had a decent 4th line center, maybe Ryan could play wing. But if Froese is your only other option, then you better play someone as dependable as Ryan up the middle.
