I don’t think it’s unfair to suggest Bennett actually does want a change of scenery. People have turned that into a trade request, or demanding a trade, or a few other more mindless projections of their own personal feelings of being slighted.
But at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. Bennett wanting a change of scenery or not does not make him more or less worthy of being benched. It’s irrelevant. Who cares. While he’s a Flame he’s a Flame, simple as that, and if he deserved to be benched based on on-ice merit, sure. But bringing up his desire for a change of scenery is pointless.
History is littered with guys who wanted out or guys who had agents that made a public stink but stayed and were still given opportunities. It doesn’t matter. Until he’s gone, he’s part of the team. And I would just hope Ward is not as mindlessly petty as some of the posters who think Bennett somehow deserves a benching more because of what his agent said.
