Watching it live I thought Gaudreau was going to get the puck too. He does that play often where he curls around and collects the puck with speed to circle the faceoff dot and attack the net as a lefty.

It's a split-second decision, and Gaudreau was skating towards the puck before curling off. Bad luck as both players misread the other's intentions. |
I think the puck also bounced and the first one looked like it was headed out quicker, then the second bounce stopped it. Plus I don’t think Gio is as confident.
