I wonder if the Goff/Wentz situations will give pause to the Browns, Bills and Ravens giving extensions to Mayfield, Allen and Jackson before they have to. If the Rams/Eagles had just let their rookie deals run out with their fifth year option then they both could have just walked away from Goff/Wentz at no cost. I get why you want to lock them in before the fifth year option kicks in, to spread out the cap hit of the extension into the last rookie year, but we just saw the downside of that. As we see now anyway though the cap is kinda not real, you can constantly manipulate it with restructures and extensions, so even if it costs you a few extra million to wait until after year five to extend them, you also keep open the option of not being ####ed with a bad contract.
