I won't be surprised to see McAvi quickly overtake Crosby moving forward. Crosby worked his ass off to reinvent and improve his game year after year; to become the best, most complete player in the world, and it required big sacrifices on the offensive side of the puck. McAvi and the Oilers don't seem to care much about anything beyond sick dangles and crossovers. Hell, I am betting that Crosby would have gotten to 500 a lot quicker if he was only interested in making hilight-reel plays all those years.

Crosby definitely would have got to 500 faster if he got the same amount of icetime that McAvi gets each and every game. I feel pretty safe saying I don’t think Crosby was ever given a six minute shift in his NHL career.
