Obviously they thought that Mackey could handle that situation better because of his different skill set than that of RA.

If they are satisfied that RA has worked out the kinks in his game then Nesterov draws back in but otherwise im guessing we see the same line up.

Also...you just cant take 3 minors in a game as a player but particularly as a raw rookie. It suggests you arent ready for the speed of the NHL and cant be relied on in certain situations. Im sure he has had a good talking too about it all. He looked really solid otherwise though and has a bright future ahead...hell maybe even this season if the need arises.

Unlike many here, I liked the way the team played last game...looked like they were starting to come out of a collective funk sans all the penalties they had to kill.

Flames win 5-2.
I agree. It's tough to be ahead at the end of the first in any game when you take 4 minor penalties in the first period. It shows some resilience when they came back with the end of first/2nd period they had. Flames came out with a W and that is the most important thing.

Also agree on Mackey. These are growing pains, and he's obviously not used to playing with these calibre players. He needs to be exposed to these situations and learn how to handle them. If he learns fast, I don't think it's a far stretch that he bumps Nesterov into the 7th spot eventually. Penalties aside, I think he played fairly well.

Every season, a number of posters hope that the Flames would develop their own as opposed to bringing in seasoned vets. I think it's good we have both. Mackey will likely develop into an NHL calibre player, but he needs time and patience to get there. Nesterov is UFA at the end of this season and he very well may leave and go elsewhere.
