He's not your classic Russian style playmaking center who holds the puck and skates around and create's plays. He's not a guy who carries the puck a lot which I think tends to lead to the assumption that he's a one trick pony who can only shoot the puck.
I do think his passing is a bit under rated in that he can make good one touch passes to team mates. He had 5 straight seasons of 30 assists and 26 last year in a really down year and would have been close to 50 had he played out the 18-19 regular season. I think he see's the ice pretty well and can make some pretty good passes in split second situations. Reminds me a bit of Thomas Holmstrom who in a game would have the puck on his stick for like 30 seconds at the most...but could still have a big impact on games. When the puck is on and off his stick quickly, it usually means good things, he's either found a team mate to set up, or he's got off a good shot.
