Why don’t they play with effort every game? Remains a mystery to me but I remain hopeful.
I’m partial to the coach being bad theory, but I have some serious questions about Gios leadership as the piss poor effort is getting old at this point.

Literally every team's fans say this.
I say this every year, but the how good a team is at their best is not an indicator of how good they are.
Ottawa is likely the worst team in the league and they hung 40 some shots the other night on Edmonton and beat Montreal. Vancouver got walloped in every category but Montreal, but Ottawa beat them and deserved it.
A team is a sum of the play in a bunch of games. I don't think it's effort for the Flames. You don't make the nhl generally unless you can bring that. Gio isn't known for taking it easy. I think it's confidence which leads to momentum. It's finicky, so you need to be able to have systems to show the bleeding when you're not feeling confident. Flames don't have that.
Watch the opposing forwards gain the zone against Calgary. The D backs right up scared of being beat, only to allow the opposition to set up and keep pressure
