I think that this is great advice. There is nothing more annoying to me than being too cheap to spend a little more and dealing with subpar equipment.
I'm saying in part to remind myself of how cheap I can be at times!
Between that and whatever you get, make sure it's something that you actually enjoy or want to do. There are going to be days where you know you should workout, and just aren't feeling it. At least having this be something that you generally like and don't have to force can go a long way on those days!
