Singh was even worse in my opinion. What the hell was with that Gaudreau goal call all about? On an a national broadcast no less. Embarrassing. I guess saying that makes me racist though?
Im a guy that really doesn't care about announcing enough to allow it to affect my viewing of the game occurring as it has zero actual bearing on whats actually happening on the ice. Last night though was without a doubt the worst "broadcast" i've experienced for a long long time. This is said having endured the babbling of Hrudey for years. He can be good at analysis but he is horrendous at color.
So no, being critical of Cassie is not necessarily sexist. She needs to be far better at her job.

The "quality" of the announcing never really bothers me. I don't think Hrudey or Cassie are that great in general. As long as there is a reasonable level of objectivity it's fine. Announcers will always talk more about the team they cover, and that's also fine. My issue is last night was over the top. I'd get it if we only saw Mcdavid once a year, but we get 10 games. There's no need for that over the top coverage.
As for the toxicity of the site. Extrapolating my experience, I'm guessing many are feeling ground down by the ongoing pandemic, and general crap economy of the last number of years. This year hockey was supposed to be something to look forward to for Flames fans, and for the most part it's been a let down. With limited outlets (see pandemic) everything feels worse.
This must be what's it's like to be an Oilers fan every year. Poor bastards.
