To me, Tree is getting bailed out by any media "circus" this creates, just like how his roster last year got the excuse of the Peters disaster.
Year after year the results are middling if not poor, and the distractions and excuse-making comes to the rescue.

I’m with you more and more on that. Traditionally I’ve liked the moves Treliving has made but this offseason was a disaster. Markstrom aside. The past few seasons have shown a lack of top end skill and lack of ability to move the puck on the back end. So what did he do to address either of those deficiencies? Nothing. No signings, no trades. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again that the problem needs to be addressed through dealing guys who are second and third liners for higher end talent. There are too many guys who are second and third line material who can bring back something in a package to get first line player. I maintain taking on the Lucic contract was terrible too but that’s ancient history. Playing him consistently is the ongoing disaster. Nothing against him personally but his style isn’t good for today’s game. Anyway, I’m coming around to giving Treliving the heave.
