Holding on to Sam because you think he is worth more while causing drama in the room can spell a disaster. Unless he gets a great deal out of it, highly unlikely. It's terrible team management.
Now if the team actually had some success, sure, ignore that. But the team is and has been a huge disappointment for almost his entire tenure.
