Yeah, but the word was they were already trying to trade him long before and perhaps thought "53 point 25 year old d-man on a 2 year deal making 4.8 should be attractive to some teams", and signed him to that with the intent still being to trade him.
I do think he's tradeable, if the Rangers will take a boat anchor contract back. But I think it seems far more likely that they just send him home to sit on his couch and buy him out at the end of the year?
