I think this type of thinking possibly comes into play regarding player recalls, but it is only an issue when a player's protection exemption confronts his ability to help the team win now. I don't really see that happening with Phillips in the next three months, so it is probably moot, anyways. What I am certain is not happening is the deliberate act of burying the player at the expense of his or the team's immediate success.
