if that is 'a fair margin', what is this?:
Konecny..: 82 games, 49 points
Gaudreau: 82 games, 99 points
Yes, Konecny is younger, and cost controlled for longer. But his best season to date was marginally more productive than Johnny's worst. Gaudreau had 78 points at the same age as Konecny's breakout season of last year.

Yup Gaudreau is the better offensive player, that shouldn't be questioned.
Konecny is grittier, and might be better defensively, but Gaudreau is a tier higher level when it comes to offense.
But Konecny closes some of that gap because of the 3 extra years he has at $5.5M on his contract.
Honestly it's an interesting question for Philly because they could look at it as 2 years of Gaudreau vs 5 years of Konecny...but if they trade for Johnny they easily have the inside track at re-signing him so they could actually look at it as 5 years of Konency vs up to 8 years of Gaudreau.
Honestly if I'm Philly I'd probably trade Konecny for Gaudreau...I just think Gaudreau gives them a dynamic they don't have and I think they could probably re-sign him to a deal that's probably a bit below market level.
And if I'm the Flames I'd probably do Gaudreau for Konecny, I think that gives them a RW that extends the window and fits a need on this roster.
I actually think it's a trade that could make sense for both teams.
