I believe there's also an NHL games played requirement so a guy like Froese or Kirkland doesn't count unless they play 27 NHL games this year.
But even if Lucic doesn't waive this is easily fixed by extending a guy like Ryan, Nordstrom or Leivo another year just before the expansion draft.

Dube will be extended and protected, leaving a choice between Lucic (assuming he waives his NMC) or Backlund to be exposed. If it is me at the helm, I will expose both of them and hope Seattle pick one of them.
Backlund, although playing well last season and OK this season thus far, will prove to be too expensive for what he offers in a year or 2...
Bennett? He is good as gone. He wants out, so he won't re-sign here. If he can't bring an OK return on trades, then leave him in the lineup this season and let him walk for free in the offseason. Or do the Treliving special by offering him an insultingly low offer, take it or leave it...
