“There is zero doubt in my mind that he is not going to re-sign in Calgary. He says otherwise, but I think he is destined for Philadelphia,” Francis said when asked about Gaudreau’s future with Calgary. “I think people have thought that from the day he signed here and he’ll ultimately be a Flyer.”

From the Calgary side, the deal would have to be a hockey trade, talent-for-talent. The Flames are in a Stanley Cup window and have a core in place to contend for at least the next couple of seasons; any deal sending Gaudreau out of town would have to include current roster players of equal value coming back.

While no deal is imminent between the Flyers and Flames, this storyline could be something to keep an eye on in the coming months.
