First line players are first line players even when they play on the fourth line. They show that they drive play, make smart decisions, and use their linemates as effectively as possible. They force the coach to move them up in the lineup because it’s obvious that they need to be on the ice more often. Sadly, Bennett hasn’t shown this...at least not on a consistent basis.
Giving Bennett tons of time on the top two lines when we have seen that he can be a liability for those lines, isn’t good for the team.
I’m pretty sure the Flames have never held a vendetta against their highest draft pick ever. They wanted him to succeed as much as any player that they’ve had on their team. Unfortunately, the product on the ice hasn’t met the hopes we all had for him.
