I'll do a little dodging of the Negative Nancys here I'm sure.

I thought the Flames game was fine (I did miss some of the 3rd period as our daughter was having a Zoom gender reveal party for a portion of it). Not a masterpiece, but the shot-blocking was excellent, as was the commitment to playing as a group. I thought the PP was a bit suspect and off, and clearly Chucky and Lindy did not have good games. But they all play with confidence in front of Markstrom. Were they perfect? No - only the Oilers are perfect to their fans. Did they do well enough to win against a very tough opponent? Yes. And that is actually what matters.

Good teams are built by steps. This game won't make or break the season - but how they follow this game up might do so. Another lacklustre effort or two against the Jets would show that nothing has changed. A better and more determined, sustained one might show some hope for overall change.

No idea what to expect from these guys - and that is perhaps the most damning of all things. Even very good teams have crappy games, but the one following is usually back to the norm. That's the kind of consistency I'd like to see them build.
