That’s bananas. There’s got to be more to the story on Arenado as it’s hard to believe his stock has fallen that far. Even taking into account the Coors field factor, he has arguably been the best third baseman in the league the last 5 seasons. So it’s odd for the Rockies to be shipping him out with a brinks truck and Arenado to be deferring salary too.

Edit: After listening to Rosenthal break down the trade a little more it’s starting to make sense. Arenado had a no trade clause with an opt out after the 2021 season. Thoughts were that he was going to opt out and would likely walk during free agency. So now the Cardinals take the risk of the opt out and basically sold some mid tier prospects for the 50million. Still a bonkers deal and good for St Louis for landing a massive fish.
