That's why you only had to risk giving him 1 season though. And he still had a couple of 4 WAR seasons before that - which is still pretty valuable.
As Roof-Daddy just posted his final 40 games last season were great, but a horrible start is what made his year overall look poor. If he actually had a full year to outrun the bad start he probably looks great again.
Usually Shortstops can play 3rd or 2nd - so I think they will have a fit for him somewhere on the roster for sure.
A 1 year deal for a guy his age that was an MVP finalist in the last full non-covid season is a good deal no matter how you slice it - even at $18M.
