I think you are wrong (not slamming you or anything) just not for the reasons you seem to think.
Lucic can be bought out, but his cap hit wont appreciably decline because he structured his contract to be heavy on signing bonuses.
And hes not going to retire. Thats the thing some people dont seem to understand, if a player 'retires' formally then their contract is null and void because one party is no longer operating within the clauses.
He might go on LTIR where he gets paid (partially) by an insurance company rather than entirely by the team, but players....
people with short careers dont tend to leave money on the table.
