Twitter has been working toward a sort of community-driven fact-checking system called Birdwatch, similar to Wikipedia. I think it's potentially more effective than internal fact-checking, which is always going to have political and revenue pressures pulling it.

It sounds like they're aware of, and working to prevent the sorts of manipulation attacks that this sort of approach is subject to.
